Pregnancy is the most joyful, significant and wonderful moment in the life of every woman. At this time, it’s important to take care of the health of the child, as well as your own. This is due to the fact that during the waiting period, the mother puts a lot of stress on her body. Both physically and psychologically. Back pain, heaviness in the legs, swelling, mood swings, and even depression can occur.

One of the ways to relax and find peace of mind is massage.

However, before resorting to massage, you should consult with a gynecologist.

Massage is not usually contraindicated during pregnancy. It can be performed locally (massage of the feet and collar zone) or completely (except for the abdomen). During pregnancy, only manual massage is possible; electrical appliances must not be used. The most important thing for women during this period is the gentle touch of warm hands, which is important for complete mental relaxation. Please note that massage for the sole purpose of body shaping is not recommended during this nine-month period.

In general, the massage should be performed with softer, smoother movements, without much rocking or tapping. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable and demanding. That is why the person doing the massage plays an important role. It is necessary to establish a psychological connection with the massage therapist, discard constraints and trust the professional as much as possible. The caring hands of a husband can help relieve tension and relax your back, however, if the massage is done correctly.

Technically speaking, this is gentle tactile contact (touching, stroking, rubbing) because the baby feels the same as the mother. The massage itself should last no more than 30-40 minutes. It’s important to run your palm along the back, never massaging the spine itself.

The main indication for massage is swelling.

Edema is the result of fluid retention in the body due to the secretion of the hormone progesterone. In addition, the load on the musculoskeletal system increases due to the weight of the child, the increase in the weight of the mother and breast. Regular massage can help solve the above problems and improve the overall psychological state of a pregnant woman.

Contraindications:

• Risk of miscarriage.

• Intestinal obstruction.

• Tumors.

• Pelvic inflammatory disease.

• Severe back pain.

• Viral diseases.

• Asthma.

• Skin diseases.

During pregnancy, you need to be very attentive to external influences on the body. Massage is no exception. After all, sudden movements can adversely affect the health of a woman and her unborn child.

When can massage be started?

Each trimester has its own characteristics. For example, the body of a pregnant woman is very vulnerable in the first week of pregnancy, so massage during this period should be avoided. However, starting from the ninth week, massage is not only possible, but must be done! Massage during the third trimester of pregnancy is useful in preparing for childbirth and, in some cases, inducing labor. Of course, the massage should be performed by a specialist. Only in these cases, massage during childbearing is not only useful, but will also bring a lot of positive emotions and complete relaxation to the expectant mother.

With care for you and your child 😇
