The first light head massage after hair transplantation can be done by yourself during daily hair washing. You should start 7-10 days after the operation. After applying a softening lotion, you need to make light circular movements in the transplant area with your fingertips for 3-4 minutes. Such self-massage improves blood circulation in the epidermis, and helps to exfoliate the crusts faster. In addition, it contributes to a better discharge of sebum, which facilitates the further exit of the hair from the follicle.

Massage the scalp only with fingertips, without pressure! Don’t use fingernails or try to pick off the crusts.

The donor area can be massaged more strongly, this helps to cope with itching.

After 1-1.5 months after transplantation, you can do a massage for hair growth. This is a procedure that should be carried out in combination with proper nutrition, taking vitamins recommended by the doctor.

The benefits of massaging the scalp are as follows:

• stimulation of blood circulation helps to improve the nutrition of the hair follicle;

• muscles of the head relax, nervous tension is removed;

• improves immunity;

• there is a removal of dead particles of the epidermis;

• subcutaneous fat doesn’t clog the follicles, so that the growing hair appears faster.

Light, superficial, sliding strokes are performed with the palms in the direction from the forehead to the back of the head (hairline). With such movements, there is:

• excitation of nerve endings of the skin;

• improved blood flow to the hair roots;

• cleansing of the glandular ducts;

• improved nutrition and stimulation of the tissues in which the follicle is located.

It’s not recommended to use vigorous rubbing and stretching of the skin when massaging the head after hair transplantation. Such movements are mainly used in therapeutic massage to relieve headaches.

The main task of massage is to stimulate microcirculation. It’s through the smallest capillaries that nutrients enter the hair follicle.

The procedure shouldn’t be done in a number of cases:

• Immediately after washing your hair. A tangled hairstyle is more vulnerable to any mechanical stress, so the procedure should at least be carried out with double caution;

• If the head hurts and the problem is caused by infectious diseases;

• The presence of injuries in any area of the head is a contraindication, caution should be exercised, for example, after a hair transplant using a patchwork method, when a large seam remains on the back of the head;

• In case of severe hair loss or past head injuries, it’s worth consulting with a specialist regarding the possibility and benefits of a massage. Similarly, with problems with intracranial pressure.

It’s worth noting that often alopecia is directly related to age-related changes in the human body. Even hair transplantation in this case will be a measure that only delays natural phenomena.

Love yourself and be healthy!
